How to watch movies or videos together online with friends
To watch a video together through FastLive, open content you are allowed to share, start a screen-sharing session and send the invitation. Viewers watch the host’s captured video. DRM-protected content may appear black; in that case, use an authorized option where everyone plays the content on their own device.
Screen sharing and synchronized playback are different
With screen sharing, one person plays the video and sends the captured picture and available sound to the group. Viewers receive that person's stream, with the delay and quality their connections allow. Pausing, seeking and choosing the next video happen in the host's player. Participants do not control separate copies through FastLive.
With synchronized playback, everyone opens the content locally. A compatible feature or an agreed countdown helps people start together. That can be a better fit for protected services. FastLive shares a capture; it does not automatically synchronize streaming accounts, supply subscriptions or provide access to a film catalogue. Choose the method before sending invitations.
Prepare the video and the room
Pick your own recording, appropriately licensed material or other content you are authorized to show. Personal access to a subscription does not automatically mean permission to retransmit it. Check the applicable conditions and agree on what to watch beforehand. This avoids preparing a group session only to discover a restriction at the opening scene.
Play a short section to confirm the original source works. Close private windows and notifications. Have headphones ready to reduce the chance of echo, and keep a laptop connected to power during a long session. A quick test with one friend is more useful than discovering missing audio after everyone has joined the room.
Start sharing in five steps
- Open the FastLive home page and Settings. Choose Screen and leave screen audio enabled for this test.
- Begin with Balance and Automatic bitrate. Pick a resolution appropriate for the actual size of the source video.
- Select Start streaming. In the browser's sharing picker, choose the video tab when that option is available.
- Check the browser's share-audio option before confirming. Make sure the preview shows the intended video rather than another window.
- Copy the invitation and send it to your friends. Ask one viewer to confirm both picture and sound before starting.
A browser tab is often a practical choice for web video because it avoids showing other windows. Available audio depends on the chosen source, browser and operating system. FastLive's audio setting requests capture; it cannot produce a sound track that the browser did not provide. The browser remains responsible for the source picker. MDN: Screen Capture
Understand the DRM limitation
DRM is used by services to control playback of protected content. A film may play correctly for a person with legitimate access while its picture is unavailable to a screen capture. If only the movie rectangle is black and the surrounding page remains visible, content protection is an important possibility to consider. MDN: Encrypted Media Extensions
FastLive does not remove DRM. Increasing bitrate or resolution cannot turn a protected player into a shareable source. Use authorized content without that restriction or a method that lets each participant watch legitimately on their own device. You do not need an extension promising to unlock a player to check whether ordinary screen sharing works.
Choose sensible picture and sound settings
Selecting 60 FPS cannot invent frames missing from the original video. A 30 FPS setting may be sufficient for many films, while higher-frame-rate material can justify a larger target. Judge what your friends actually receive. Enlarging a small video source also cannot recover details absent from the original picture, even if the output selector says 1080p.
If sound is missing, first check that the original video is playing and whether the viewer needs to tap to enable audio. Then review the audio option in the sharing picker. Avoid capturing the room's own tab because it can include participants' voices and create repetition. If audio arrives twice, test headphones and mute the microphone temporarily.
Keep the session comfortable for the group
Each viewer adds another outgoing stream in FastLive's direct connection model. If quality drops as people join, try a lower resolution or fewer viewers. A wired connection can help isolate Wi-Fi problems, but cannot guarantee quality when the host is overloaded. Agree on brief pauses if somebody needs to reconnect or change devices.
Use chat for comments without interrupting playback. For a private session, set a password and share the invitation only with the intended group. Keep the captured window restored if minimizing it freezes the picture on your system. End the stream when you finish. Leaving the website open does not make the video available after the host has ended the room.
Frequently asked questions
Can I watch any streaming service through FastLive?
No. Services can restrict retransmission and use DRM. When content is blocked, use an authorized viewing method for each person; FastLive does not remove protection.
Will every viewer be on exactly the same second?
Viewers follow the host’s stream, but connection delay can differ. FastLive does not individually synchronize external video players on each device.
Why is there a picture but no sound?
Check the source sound, the sharing picker and the viewer’s volume. Capture may provide video without audio when that browser does not offer sound for the selected source.
